This was the first in-depth piano lesson dvd course to hit the market and over the past 3 years no other course has come close to matching it’s quality of instruction and features, not to mention their world class instructor and Grammy Award winner Will Barrow.

Four Ways to Learn

There are four resources to learn from in the course: 14 lesson dvds, 100 page workbook, 5 jam along discs and online support website. The long list of topics covered is the equivalent of 2+ years of private piano instruction which could cost well over $1500.

An Amazing Teacher

While there are lots of dvd piano courses, none other has Will barrow as their instructor. Will is a Grammy Award winning Pianist who is versed in multiple styles, holds a masters degree in music and has years of teaching experience under his belt. The chances you’ll find an instructor this qualified or experienced is slim to none.

The Piano System is targeted at teaching beginners to learn songs by ear on the piano. You won’t find as much lessons content on the 3 piano lesson dvds included you will learn to play many popular songs you’ve likely heard on the radio.

The course discs are split into three sections: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Each disc includes Jam along videos which you can use while practicing as well as an audio CD which contains those same jam tracks for use in your regular CD player or MP3 player.

The Piano System is great for beginners who are only interested in learning cover songs or intermediate piano players who have taught themselves a little and are ready for some more formal home instruction.

Taught by Australian pianist Ruth Searle (a classically trained musician) this course aims to teach the absolute basics of the piano to beginners.

Unlike other piano lessons on dvd, Rocket Piano is a mixture of lesson books and short video clips which illustrate techniques explained in the books. Personally I’m not a huge fan of learning from a book, I prefer videos but for the sub $40 price point (downloaded version only) this is a great piano course to help beginners decide if they really want to learn or not.

There are 3 lesson books (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and through out each lesson book you’ll be referred to the 57 different video lessons included and 191 audio files.

Rocket Piano isn’t as in depth as either of the two other courses I reviewed but for the price point it will teach you the basics of the piano and let you know if you’ll enjoy learning or not.
