The piano is an awesome instrument, personally I love it, but at times I’ve wished I was able to also play the guitar. You see the piano, at least my big upright one I have, isn’t all that portable. So I decided a few months ago to buy a cheap acoustic guitar online.

I picked one up for under a couple hundred bucks and then set off to try and learn some chords on YouTube. I was at a distinct advantage over most beginners because I already have the basics of music theory from learning piano. What I found from the beginner guitar lessons I was taking was that they were just too basic and weren’t really teaching me all I knew I should be learning.

So I set off to find some paid online lessons. I found several courses to use. What I settled on Jamplay.com, an online guitar site that had a few hundred hours of lessons for all skill levels from a bunch of different teachers.

There was a couple of reasons I opted on using these guitar lessons online.

The first was I wanted to find a site that had specific teachers for different styles of guitar. I didn’t want to learn blues from the same guy that taught the kids beginner guitar lessons.

The second was I wanted to ensure there was good support for the lessons.

Jamplay had both of those, the final thing that put me over the top to choose them were these Jamplay coupon codes I found.

I was able to say 10% on my entire years membership, which might not seem like much but I basically was able to get a full years worth of guitar lessons for about $125 bucks.

If you’re thinking of picking up the guitar I have to say that this site is a great deal.

It’s not always apparent that the bass guitar is playing a big role in a song when a band is performing or you’re listening to a CD. However if you take the bass away you sure know it’s missing.

This is the way it often is for many background instruments, especially in a studio mix of a song when the instrument isn’t at the forefront.

The bass guitar is the instrument that really ties together the beats from the drums with the rhythm and chords of the piano or guitar. The bass guitar generally follows along with the root note of the chords from the song and then follows the beat of the bass drum for the drummer.

This is a unique marriage between a stringed instrument and the drums that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

The bass guitar is often an instrument that gets overlooked because it is a background instrument. The guitar and piano are usually the post popular instruments to learn since they are out in the front and the people who play them get noticed.

It’s a different individual who takes bass guitar lessons. It’s someone who wants to do it for the love of the music. They recognize that they may never be the front person in a band, but that doesn’t matter to them. They’re in it to be the thump and driving force of a song.

To those of you how love bass guitar i have to salute you. It’s a beautiful instrument that has a lot of creative growth when you really learn the fretboard.

Today’s post isn’t directly related to Piano, but it is good for any of you who are or would like to be multi instrumentalists.

The company that produced and sells Learn & Master Piano is Legacy Learning Systems. An educational company from Nashville TN. They first got their start with a guitar course, Learn and Master Guitar and the second product that created was their piano program.

Today I want to share with you a couple of other new courses they’ve come out with in the past few months that are interesting for those of you who may also play guitar.

The first is a blues guitar dvd, Learn & master blues spotlight edition. The new spotlight courses are aimed at being smaller then their full Learn & Master courses, but still providing excellent instruction and experience for the student.

This course is taught by Steve Krenz, the same instructor from their Learn and Master Guitar course. (You can read more about him and this course in this learn and master guitar review). Steve is a great teacher for beginner guitar topics because he has a soft spoken way about him and he’s very talented at explaining things in an easy to understand manner.

The second course that they’ve released for guitar players is a setup DVD course. Unlike all their other courses this is the first that doesn’t teach you to play or create something, although it is closely related since it aims to help you take care of your instrument so you can play.

While there are lots of professionals who can do great setups for your instrument there are those of us who love DIY and this DVD course will get you all ready to: change strings, adjust intonation and even adjust your neck, bridge or nut.

Check them out if you’re have an interest in learning guitar, or already do play the guitar.

Ok so I went out and found a lesson on YouTube that covers how to play Hey Jude by the Beatles. Yesterday I posted a great live performance of this song with some of the biggest names in music today, I figured if you took the time to watch that video today you might have the itch to learn how to play the song.

This is a great video tutorial and I have to give props to the author of it from piano-play-it.com. He does a great job instructing the song.

Notice how there isn’t a ton of movement to the hands, and like I mentioned yesterday it isn’t all the difficult to play.

If you’re still a little unsure about it or you’re a complete beginner you’ll likely want to get a hold of a beginner piano course like Learn and master Piano. This course is designed to help someone like you learn the basics of playing piano by sheet music, by ear and experimenting on your own.

Well unless you’ve lived under a rock your entire life you’ve more then likely heard this HUGE hit by The Beatles “Hey Jude”. While the song itself isn’t such a techincal tune on the piano it’s definitely one of the best songs ever written on and for the piano.

The version I found today is a star studded affair from a concert in 1997. It includes Sting, Elton John, Phil Collins and more. Of course Paul McCartney is in there as well on the Piano.

This song isn’t actually all that tough to learn if you know the chords. I’ll try and find a lesson for you in the next few days for this specific song.

If you’re skills aren’t quite up to speed yet to play a song like Hey Jude then why not consider getting a self study piano course like Learn and Master piano. These DVD courses are quickly becoming a popular option for adults looking to learn piano thanks to their lower cost then private instruction and low time requirement.

While this is one of Cold Play’s easier songs to play, as the instructor in this video mentions, if you are a complete Beginner you’re probably going to want to spend a little time with a course like Learn and Master Piano or something similar for a month or two to pick up the techniques, chords and such needed.

Take a watch of this video and if you’ve got some basic skills you can probably be playing this song with a bit of practice.

He plays it and it’s shown from a couple of different angles so for you intermediate players you can probably figure out exactly what it is he’s playing.

This version of the song really shows how he’s playing the melody on one hand and the chords on the other. In my opinion this is one of the best pop piano songs of the last few years.

If you’d like to learn more about learning to play by ear you should check out the dvd piano lessons we’ve compared on our main site, including Learn and master piano and the Piano System..

It’s hard to argue with the fact that many of the best songs in the last 50 years, at least pop tunes were written and performed by The Beatles. Since Piano was such a main stay of their performance with Paul McCartney playing both Bass and Piano so well.

This song is so elegant and simple yet touching I can’t help but listen to it over and over sometimes.

Like so many Beatles songs the simplicity is also it’s strength, and for someone wanting to learn the song on Piano it’s also the benefit.

This song isn’t tough to learn for most beginners who have been playing for 6-12 months. If you’re just starting out you won’t want to frustrate yourself trying to learn this song yet, it will be a little too advanced.

If you haven’t started learning piano yet, and you’re seriously considering it take a look at Learn and Master Piano. It’s a self study course created for adults looking to learn piano but save time and money compared to private instruction.

I had to post this video when I saw it. I cannot believe that someone figured this out, but I guess if you know how to play piano, you know how to play it anywhere.

There are a slew of iPhone and Ipod Touch applications out that give you a piano to play on your touch screen. Once such app has been used to create a cover of the great Cold Play song “Clocks”. The person in the video is moving really fast on their phone, so I would say this took some practice.

Something this video goes to show how ever is that songs that often sound difficult on the piano are not all that tough to really play. I mean if this person can play it on the small piano available here on their iPhone then as a beginner you can probably figure it out the full keyboard.

If you are a complete beginner and would enjoy learning songs like Cold Play’s “Clocks” and others why not start learning today? Check out Learn and master piano, a DVD self study piano lessons course that will teach you all the chords and learning by ear skills you’ll need to learn songs like this one and more.

It’s thought by many to be a pretty cheesy song, but “Don’t Stop Believing” in my opinion has one of the most memorable piano parts ever written in pop music. It’s a great song to learn, and even better if you can play and sing at the same time.

The chords are difficult to learn, and most beginners can figure out the intro.

While I can’t guarantee you’ll be as good as the piano player in the rock band Journey, if you are looking to learn piano or brush up on your skills check out learn and master piano. It’s a DVD self study course instructed by a Grammy Winning pianist. It covers everything you’ll need to become a great piano player.
