As one of the cheapest learn at home Piano Courses Rocket Piano provides a pretty solid program for under $40 (for the downloaded version).

When I tried to stack Rocket Piano up against other DVD courses like Learn and Master Piano, unfortunately it didn’t really stand a chance, but when you consider what you’re getting for the money Rocket Piano is offering pretty good value.

Lesson Books

The main substance of the Rocket Piano course is 3 lesson books. One each for: beginner, intermediate and advanced. While I prefer video lessons for learning at home there are over 50 different video lessons included with Rocket Piano that are referred to at different points through out the lesson books.

The Basics

Rocket Piano focuses on teaching you the basics of learning Piano and then frequently testing your knowledge with tests through out the course.

Topics covered in the course include: correct fingering, chords, scales, musical theory and reading music

The course provides an in depth overview of the basics, I felt that if you were an intermediate player how ever who has taken a few lessons before there may not be a lot of new material here for you.

Features

Rocket Piano includes:

3 Lesson Workbooks: Specific workbook for beginner, intermediate and advanced topics.

2 Genre Work books: Two additional workbooks specially for Jazz piano & Gospel

191 audio files: Each of these clips is an example of how different exercises, scales, songs, chords etc. should sound as you’re learning them. This is a good reference tool to use as you learn something from the workbook to ensure you’re playing it correctly.

57 Video Lessons: These are short video demonstrations of particular topics covered in the work books. At different points in each workbook it will refer you to a video lesson. They are short and to the point. The quality is so so. Compared to newer courses coming out the video quality could be improved greatly.

17 Jam Tracks: 2 versions of each jam track are included to play along with while practicing. One version has a piano track recorded while the other does not. These are professionally recorded tracks and sound great.

Conclusion

Rocket Piano is a lot of content for $40 bucks. I feel that this course requires you to use 3 resources: lesson books, audio clips and video clips, to learn the same thing you’d get in one video lesson from DVD.

Of course in comparison the cheapest DVD piano lessons are $97 so it’s going to cost you more then twice your money.

If you’re a complete beginner and aren’t 100% sure if you’re going to love playing the Piano then I feel this course is worth trying. How ever if you know for a fact you’ve always wanted to learn piano then I’d opt for a more expensive course such as Learn and Master Piano.
